Magriço

RAIZVANGUARDA (RV) is proud to present “Magriço”, an artist who participated in our ROOTS exhibition in May 2018. to find out what “Magriço” is working on, read his interview here!

Tell us about yourself, what do you do?
I will talk little more about “Magriço” works than about myself; I present him as an “almost” artist, illiterate without any academic training in the artistic field. He acts as an auxiliary ego in which I am the protagonist because I provide my life and work around the “psyche” for Magriço to work on.

In which field of art do you work, what topics are important to you as an artist? What are you passionate about?
I choose painting as the main form of expression for “Magriço” work, as an adornment of “jouissance”. What I love about painting is the absence of words, the intuitive experience that it provides and the construction of the aesthetic sense that can be built in a dialogue between the idea, the paint and the canvas. And like any dialogue, it does not follow a script.

Where are you from? What is your educational background?
The artistic life of “Magriço” is born between Alentejo (Évora) and Lezíria Ribatejana (Coruche). Because “Magriço” doesn’t have any artistic education, I give three main rules. First, work solely on the principle of pleasure. Second, never use an eraser. Third, finish when you feel satisfied.

What attracted you to come to RV as a resident?
Time.

What project are you working on?
Life.

What is your favourite part of RV?
Time and space to be.
